"Beacon of the Wild" 24"x48" oil on birch panel

The impetus for painting this came from a method I did a while back on a painting called “Boulder Gold.” That painting was done as a 10”x10” before I painted a larger 28”x40” of it. Boulder Gold was the first time I painted a very similar picture twice in different sizes. I now like to think of the smaller ones as a “study” to see how a larger piece could end up looking; composition, color, contrast, depth etc. All things I strive to capture. I wanted to do that again with this image and now I have completed the larger version!
