Beacon of the Wild

This piece is the second in a study of pieces from the Sawtooth Mountain Range. The first of this series “Boulder Gold” won best of show in the Salmon River Art Guild's annual art show. That painting was done as a 10”x10” before I painted a larger 28”x40” of it. Boulder Gold was the first time I painted a very similar picture twice in different sizes. I now like to think of the smaller ones as a “study” to see how a larger piece could end up looking; composition, color, contrast, depth etc. All things I strive to capture. I wanted to do that again with Beacon of the Wild! Formerly known as Sawtooth Trail in its smaller study, now Beacon of the Wild is available as a 24in x 48in original oil on birch wood panel.
