Echos from the Heights: Zion en Plein Air

Echos from the Heights. Zion holds all qualities in its title. The promise of this park is how it inevitably takes your breath away. When I was painting this piece I was greeted by a friendly and very energetic chipmunk. I couldn’t help but have her presence be a way to further heighten the impact of the size of the main valley. Something so small in such a grand landscape. I paused to settle into that feeling. These moments are what keep me coming back to plein air. Stationary in one spot while simultaneously being acutely aware of your environment Stretching time. Preserving the moment for hours.
